Julius Agwu Celebrates 40th Birthday With Book Launch

Come Sunday, April 7, 2013, Nigerian ace comedian, Julius Agwu will turn 40. To mark the day, the talented humour merchant has set aside the day to launch his autobiography. 

The book is titled 'Jokes Apart – How Did I Get Here' which was edited Toni Kan. 

The graduate of Theatre Arts from UNIPORT, Rivers State, is leaving no stone unturned in making the day successful. 

Julius Agwu has spent over 10 years doing comedy, acting and singing. He has 'Laff 4 Christ Sake' comedy show to his credit. 

Details of the venue is still kept secret and would be made known later. Julius Agwu is credited to have brought about musicomedy.

The man suspected to be behind the 2010 Independence Day Bombing that killed 12 people was today sentenced to 24 years in prison by a South African Court.

Mr Okah was found guilty on 13 counts of terrorism, including engaging in terrorist activities, conspiracy to engage in terrorist activities, and delivering, placing, and detonating an explosive device.

Professor Chinua Achebe dies at 82

Novelist, poet, professor, critic and the author of the most widely read book in African literature (Things Fall Apart) professor Chinua Achebe, has passed on. Professor Achebe died last night March 21 in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He had been ill for a while. He was 82 years old.

The legend has gone home. May his soul rest in peace...Amen. 

Dailymotion May be Bought by Yahoo!

Yahoo! may purchase the video-sharing site Dailymotion. 

The ever-growing popular site emerging out of France recently came in 12th place as one of the most used video-sharing sites with a following of more than 116 million users. If Yahoo! does in fact acquire proprietary rights, they are looking to buy around 75 percent of the site from the France Telecom corporation who are the current owners. The internet video-sharing site is worth around 300 million. 

Yahoo!'s CEO Marissa Mayer has been currently in the search of obtaining more international business, where the corporation gains most of its profit. Meyer became President of Yahoo! last summer after working for 13 years at Google. She is currently the youngest female CEO of a Fortune 500 firm. In an attempt to help the company, Meyer banned telecommuting last month which stirred up quite a controversy, especially from parents, who found that working from home made their schedule more flexible for their kids. However, Mayer believes this move can better the company by working in an office environment where employees can throw around ideas and work off of each other. Once some of the work-at-home employees, mainly ones who have children, arrive back in the office in the scheduled month of June, they may not like finding Mayer's built in nursery conveniently made for her baby right next door to her office. 

BlackBerry to be Reviewed by CESG

CESG announced that BlackBerry has not yet been denied the "Restricted" classification. 

These are bumpy times for BlackBerry. All seemed to be going smoothly, particularly with the hyped BlackBerry Z10 emerging, however a new security issue has the company biting its nails. It was recently suggested that the new BB10 software wasn't as secure as its predecessor, and therefore was rejected for "Restricted" government use in the UK. The feature causing the security issue in this case appears to be the BB10 operating system's new element entitled "Balance." BlackBerry is nonetheless being gracious about the situation, and issued in a statement, "This level of approval only comes following a process which is rigorous and absolutely necessary given the highly confidential nature of the communications being transmitted." The CESG has not yet given an official word on the operating system. 


While security battles are being waged for BlackBerry, the company founders are also actively trying to bring attention to their other projects. Recently, they funneled $100 million into recently created Quantum Valley Investments, which works to incorporate quantum science into new technologies. BlackBerry co-founder Mike Lazaridis states, "Nothing you see in the classical technology world can prepare you for what you will see in the quantum technology revolution." Whether or not these technologies will surface through BlackBerry remains to be seen, but it likely won't be any time in the immediate future. Until then, the company continues to wait for the official word from the CESG (Communications-Electronics Security Group) with regards to its newest level of security clearance in the UK.

The world got its first glimpse of Samsung’s new Galaxy S 4 last week, reigniting the Apple vs. Samsung argument as the two companies battle for the future of mobile. Apple seemed a bit on edge as it put up its new “What iPhone?” page, and now a third player is looking to strike while Apple is on defense: BlackBerry. The struggling smartphone vendor might not pose the same threat to Apple that Samsung does in the near term, but CEO Thorsten Heins used a recent interview as an opportunity to let the world know that Apple’s iPhone has fallen behind rival platforms, including his new BlackBerry 10 OS.

“The rate of innovation is so high in our industry that if you don’t innovate at that speed you can be replaced pretty quickly,” Heins told Australian Financial Review in a recent interview. “The user interface on the iPhone, with all due respect for what this invention was all about, is now five years old.”

He noted that Apple was largely responsible for the shift in the smartphone market to touchscreen devices. “They did a fantastic job with the user interface, they are a design icon,” he said. “There is a reason why they were so successful, and we actually have to admit this and respect that.”

But the problem, Heins notes, is that Apple rested on its laurels. “The point is that you can never stand still. It is true for us as well,” Henis said. “Launching BB10 just put us on the starting grid of the wider mobile computing grand prix, and now we need to win it.”

26 YEAR-OLD GIRL WHO HAD 26 ABORTIONS TELLS HER STORIES

I am 26 years old. I simply got into sex out of ignorance like millions of young people today. My addiction placed me as the highest abortionist in the world at age of 26 and now, I have a sad story to tell.

Until I found myself in a total mess, I never really had any Idea what premarital sex was all about. I never knew it was so useless and killing. Before I got into it, I use to think it was some fun and I dreamt of it more often than not. I wished with all my heart to have a boyfriend whom we would explore it together, little did I know that I was being nasty to myself.

Because of things I see on TV and magazine, I thought having sex was so much fun, I fantasized about it each time I felt lonely. Only if I had known that everything I see in movies and soap operas were just acting and make belief; only if I had known that there is nothing in sex after all, the only thing in it is self destruction; I think my life wouldn’t be this miserable.

It’s a pity i really had to learn the hard way and I really wish I had never been born, I wish I had not come out into this deceitful world where nobody cares about young people, all the so called adults do is how they would play on the intelligence of young people in a bid to exploit and use them to satisfy their insatiable sexual passion. I really feel bad about this wicked world.

My plight started when I was sixteen, then I was still a virgin and in secondary school, I was ignorant of many things but because I see it every day on the TV and internet. More so, a couple of so called Anti AIDS people visited us in school a couple of times for lectures, but all they did was introduce sex to us even more because they really had nothing but condoms to show.

Fine, they told us about AIDS, but at the same time, they also told us about condoms, they never really said anything real about sex, they said we could contact AIDS not through sex, but unprotected sex, which means there was nothing wrong with sex as long as you could use condoms, but all of that I now know very well are lies, and I wonder why men and women would enjoy telling teenagers deadly lies like that.

Even though I can’t blame those people totally for my plight because they weren’t really the ones that said I should go into sex, I still never forgive them for encouraging me and other young people like me into sex with their preaching of protected sex or condom. Even though I wanted to see what sex was really like and I fantasized about it, some were within me, I was still very scared of what may happen to me afterwards if l tried it, and it was that fear that actually kept me away from it until I was sixteen.

By the time I was sixteen, my fantasy had gotten enough boost to express itself with reliance to said to myself one day, “free yourself baby girl, there is nothing terrible in sex, can’t you see everyone is doing it, by the way, you can always use condoms nothing will happen”. So, I finally decided to let go of my fears and embrace in totality my silly fantasies, and that was how I took the very first step into this miserable life of illicit sex. I had absolutely no idea of what I was going into.

I finally agreed to date this guy who had been disturbing me for more than a year, his name was Andrew. Andrew was five years older than me. Both of us began enjoying sex, - we did it every seconds, every minute; -I became addicted that I do not love doing it with condom anymore. Within the period, I had 14 abortions for Andrew, and not only that, I cheated on him in several occasions, I felt doing it with other guys will give me better sensation but all were the same.

My school teacher got me and at the end of the day I had 6 abortions for him. And worst among was my sexual affairs with my close relations, which resulted to 5 abortions. Then I felt I was at the top of the world. I will never forgive my friends who introduced me into partying and sleeping with old men with potbelly and rough skin only in the name of sex.

Right now, all those men have gone, and then shadow of my past sexual life still follows me around. All this pills and tablets I took are now telling on my blood stream. At times I felt like committing suicide each time I remember what the doctor told me, “Tessy, I am sorry, your womb is automatically damaged on account of the several abortion you had”, “I’m sorry, you will never conceive again in your life, but just thank God, you don’t have HIV or AIDS”.

I therefore, advise every young girl reading this piece today, to over look every fantasy towards sex. Sex is good but it has time. And that is in marriage. Keep yourself away from men. Make friends with those who mean good for your future.

Naomi Campbell may have not have any qualms about speaking her mind, but it appears Coco Rocha does, after the model became annoyed by her The Face co- star's comments about one of her models.

SACKED 1,444 EXXON-MOBIL WORKERS DEMAND TERMINAL BENEFITS

About 1,444  Exxon-Mobil’s workers who were relieved of their jobs  have called on the company to pay them their agreed terminal benefits.

Addressing journalists in Abuja at the weekend, the workers also urged the National Assembly to intervene in efforts to persuade the company to pay them  their terminal benefits.

They accused the oil company of violating their rights and inflicting injustice on them by denying them their N11.4 billion entitlements.
In a speech read on behalf of the workers by the Registrar of the International Institute for Humanitarian and Environmental Law, Mr Cyprian Edward-Ekpo, the workers  said the relative peace in the Niger Delta would be threatened if the company failed to pay them their entitlements.

They said that the action of the firm was a gross violation of human/labour rights of the people.

The workers said alleged that a peaceful protest by them to press home their demand  was thwarted by the management of the Exxon-Mobil  who sponsored the police to harass, arrest and torture them.

According to them, the action of the international firm undermines the federal government’s efforts that had led to the current relative peace in the Niger-Delta region.

They said: “It is highly despicable and condemnable that a service contract worker who has worked for Exxon-Mobil for over thirty years was offered N150,000 as end of service benefit.

“May we quickly add that some members of this group were previously involved in militancy in the Niger Delta region, but as a result of the amnesty programme and transformation agenda of the federal government, they laid down arms and engaged in meaningful occupation.

“The consequences of Exxon-Mobil action by refusing to pay them their rightful entitlement shall certainly lead some of them to return to the creeks with its attendant negative consequences on the economy of the country.

TONTO DIKE IMPOSTER FOOLD GHANAIAN MEDIA

After Ghana’s dancehall king Samini released his ‘azonto’ track which is a cover of Nigerian duo P-Square’s ‘Alingo’ track; there were lot of controversies immediately. Thus, the song was tagged as a diss to the duo’s ‘Alingo’ track.

The song generated lots of controversies in both countries as citizens threw insults on each other via social media networks twitter and facebook.

Surprisingly, there were news about Nigerian controversial actress Tonto Dike involving herself in this issue. 

Tonto was reported to have attacked Samini over his ‘alingo’ diss track on twitter with I.D. @tontoTEEdike. The first tweet of this mentioned I.D. was synchronized to the actress’ facebook page to twitter. @tontoTEEdike with over 34,000, @tontodike2 also with about 4000 followers and @tontolet with over 170,000 followers are the twitter handles bearing the name of the actress.

Upon checks by NigeriaFilms.Com, the original twitter I.D for the actress is @tontolet with 170,393 followers which makes @tontoTEEdike handle an imposter. After seeing Samini retweeeting the insults lashed on him by the said imposter (@tontoEEdike), we checked the official handle of the actress (@tontolet) but it didn’t have any tweet talking about Samini’s ‘alingo’ diss. Surprisingly, some insults were directed to the official handle @tontolet but there was no reply and as at now, the actress has not come out to clear the air.

 Not long ago, Tonto was said to have been in a battle with Ghanaian sultry actress Yvonne Nelson over musician Iyanya. The said fight also happened via twitter with the two actress creating new accounts. Yvonne later came out to deny the handle and disclosed it as an imposter but Tonto kept silent about it.

HTC's CEO UNIMPRESSED WITH GALAXY S4

The Galaxy S4 was well received at a New York event Wednesday evening where the phone was presented. 

The latest device by Samsung has added some pretty nifty features, including a sensing device to detect a user's finger in just hovering over the screen instead of activating movement by touch. It also comes equipped with an element which gives users the ability to scroll down on their device with just the movement of their eyes. The Galaxy S4 is packed with a 13 megapixel camera and a 2 megapixel secondary camera, and it runs on an eight-core processor which is said to be quite fast. The new, hip camera is able to take 12 photos at once and then display all the movements and trap it into one photo. 

HTC's head, Benjamin Ho, on the other hand, is not impressed by Samsung's latest product. In trying to boost the company's latest smartphone, he stated "With a continuation of a plastic body and a larger screen being the most obvious physical change, Samsung's new Galaxy pales in comparison to the all-aluminum unibodyHTC One. HTC remains the best option for those people looking for the best technology wrapped in premium design. Our customers want something different from the mainstream, who appear to be the target for the Galaxy. Our customers want an original cutting-edge technology, mouth-watering design and a premium feel from their mobiles, which is why we created the HTC One." The Galaxy S4 is due for the UK market in April.
